Amanda Bynes has avoided jail time in her 2012 DUI case. The 27-year-old actress was charged with driving under the influence on April 6, 2012. Authorities were alerted to her impaired condition when she crashed her vehicle into a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s cruiser.

Jane Robinson, a representative with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, confirmed that Bynes pleaded no contest and was found guilty of reckless operation. Although the charge is alcohol-related, it is not as serious as driving under the influence. As Bynes refused a sobriety test, it may have been difficult to prove that her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Edward Moreton sentenced Bynes to three years probation. She is also required to complete a three-month alcohol cessation program.

As reported by Los Angeles Times, Amanda Bynes’ DUI charge was the beginning of a downward spiral that lasted for several years. Following her arrest, the young actress began displaying increasingly bizarre behavior.

During the remainder of 2012, Bynes was charged with numerous traffic violations, including two hit and run incidents and driving under suspension.

In May 2013, the actress was charged with reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, and marijuana possession. Authorities said Bynes threw a bong, which is used to smoke marijuana, out the window of her apartment. Although she denied the charge, she was arrested and transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
